Men's Hoops Team Topples Anderson 81-65

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team, ranked 21st in the latest D3hoops.com poll, improved to 7-1 by defeating Anderson University 81-65.

Elmhurst jumped out to a 41-28 lead at halftime and opened up an 18-point advantage with 15:30 to play in the second half. Anderson (4-6) used a 27-12 run over the next nine minutes to close to within three points at 62-59. The Bluejays slowly built their lead back up to 10 points and then pulled away hitting all 10 of their free throws in the final 1:20 of the contest to earn the 81-65 victory.

Ryan Burks (Manito/Midwest Central) led all scorers with 23 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Burks hit 4-of-7 from beyond the arc and added five rebounds in the win. Brent Ruch (Farmer City/Blue Ridge) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds while adding four assists and four blocked shots. Robert Strzemp (Oak Park/Oak Park-River Forest) contributed 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench while Dustin Bainter (Macomb/H.S.) came off the bench to score 12. Mark Aloiso (West Chicago/Wheaton Academy) added eight points in the win.

Anderson was led by Mike Russell's 21 points on 9-of-20 shooting. Gabe Miller totaled 11 points while Ryan Fultz finished with nine points and six rebounds.

Elmhurst shot 58.7 percent (27-of-46) from the field and 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from 3-point range. The Bluejays continued their solid performance from the foul line, hitting 21-of-23 attempts (91.3 percent). Anderson shot only 37.1 percent (26-of-70) from the field and 16.7 percent (3-of-18) from long range. Elmhurst also enjoyed a 40-28 edge on the glass.

Turnovers continued to plague the Bluejays, as Elmhurst committed 26 turnovers leading to 25 Anderson points.
