Men's Hoops Team Topples Mount St. Joe 86-74

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team improved to 4-1 overall by defeating the College of Mount St. Joseph 86-74.
Ryan Burks (Manito/Midwest Central) equaled his career-high in scoring, pouring in 29 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the floor. Brent Ruch (Farmer City/Blue Ridge) had a great all-around game by scoring 16 points, pulling down eight rebounds, and dishing out seven assists. Dustin Bainter (Macomb/H.S.) came off the bench to score 11 points. Jared Hintzsche (Kirkland/Hiawatha) dumped in 10 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in the win.
Elmhurst shot 59.3 percent (32-of-54) from the floor and 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from beyond the arc. The Bluejays also dominated inside, scoring 48 points in the paint.
Mount St. Joseph (4-4) finished the game shooting 56.9 percent (29-of-51) from the floor and 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from long range.
Michael Romes led the Lions with 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Michael Eirons added 16 points and Kyle McCord scored 13.
Elmhurst broke a 25-25 tie late in the first half with a 17-10 run to take a 42-35 lead at the half. The Bluejays started the second half with a 27-16 run to grab a 69-51 lead with 10 minutes to play. A 19-9 run by the Lions brought the lead down to eight points with just two minutes to play, but the Bluejays put the game away from the foul line in the closing minutes.
Elmhurst, ranked 21st in the latest D3hoops.com poll, travels to Orlando, Fla. next week to play in the RDV Sportsplex Tournament. Elmhurst faces Tri-State University on Tuesday, December 18.
