Bluejay Hoops Team Routs MacMurray 74-51

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team, ranked 18th in the D3hoops.com poll, moved to 2-0 to start the season by routing MacMurray College 74-51.
Elmhurst (2-0) jumped out to a 31-24 halftime lead and then outscored MacMurray (1-2) 43-27 in the second half en route to the 74-51 win.
Elmhurst used 14 different players in the contest and 12 of the 14 put points on the scoreboard. After struggling with their outside shooting in the first half (0-7 from 3-point range), Elmhurst was solid from the field in the second half, shooting 60.0 percent (12-of-20) overall and 75.0 percent (3-of-4) from long distance. The Bluejays finished the contest shooting 50.0 percent (25-of-50) from the field and 27.3 percent (3-of-11) from 3-point range.
MacMurray finished the game shooting 37.0 percent (17-of-46) from the floor and 31.8 percent (7-of-22) from beyond the arc. The Bluejays dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Highlanders 39-21.
After committing 29 turnovers in their season-opening win against Simpson, Elmhurst lowered the turnover total to 21. The Bluejays weren't hurt by the turnovers as MacMurray managed only 13 points off of them. Elmhurst turned 18 MacMurray turnovers into 25 points.
Brent Ruch (Farmer City/Blue Ridge) was a dominant force for Elmhurst, recording his first double-double of the season. Ruch poured in 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting while adding a game-high 11 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass. Ruch also added a team-high five assists in the win.
Ryan Burks (Manito/Midwest Central) added 13 points and seven rebounds in the win. Mark Aloisio (Wheaton/Wheaton Academy) added nine points and five rebounds. Jared Hintzsche (Kirkland/Hiawatha) came off the bench to score eight points.
Neil Compton paced MacMurray with 19 points while Billy Long added 10 points in the loss.
Elmhurst hosts Eureka College on Saturday, November 24, at 3:00 p.m.
