Men's Hoops Team Picked Second in CCIW; 18th in Nation
ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team has been picked place second in the conference in a pre-season poll of the league's coaches. In addition, the Bluejays have also been ranked 18th in the nation in the D3hoops.com preseason poll.
The Bluejays, who return all-conference selections Brent Ruch (Farmer City/Blue Ridge) and Ryan Burks (Manito/Midwest Central), finished second in the CCIW's pre-season poll with 43 points, including two first-place votes. Defending CCIW champion Augustana College has been tabbed to repeat as champions, finishing the poll with 47 points and the final six first-place votes.
Wheaton College finished third in the poll with 37 points while North Park University totaled 29 points for fourth place. Carthage (26), North Central (18), Illinois Wesleyan (16) and Millikin (8) rounded out the preseason poll. Each coach votes for the seven other teams in the league and are not allowed to vote for their own teams.
Elmhurst also earned national recognition in D3hoops.com's pre-season Top-25 poll, earning 150 points to place 18th. The Bluejays finished the 2007 season ranked 16th in D3hoops.com's poll.
The CCIW is well represented in D3hoops.com's poll. Augustana is ranked fifth in the nation. Wheaton College is listed 30th and Carthage College 31st in the others receiving votes category.
Elmhurst kicks off the 2007-08 season on Saturday, November 17, by hosting Simpson College.
