Pair of Errors Costly to Bluejay Baseball Team

Box Score

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College baseball team dropped to 10-9 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) play, following a 6-5 loss at Illinois Wesleyan University. A pair of Elmhurst errors in the ninth allowed IWU to earn the come-from-behind win.

Leading 5-4 heading into the ninth, the Bluejays committed an error on a fielders choice play to give the Titans an extra base runner. With two outs and runners at second and third, Elmhurst committed its second error of the inning, allowing the game-tying and game-winning runs to score.

Elmhurst outhit the Titans 12-6 in the contest with Pat Meginniss (Elgin/H.S.) and Brian Mucha (Arlington Heights/Buffalo Grove) leading the way with three hits apiece. Meginniss also scored three runs in the loss. Tom Rhein (Worth/Brother Rice) and Anthony Contaldo (Sleepy Hollow/Dundee-Crown) each drove in two in the loss.

Elmhurst trailed 4-2 in the sixth when Rhein roped a two-run double to even the game at four.  The Bluejays grabbed the lead in the eighth on a Contaldo RBI single.

Nick Ferrin (Lake Forest/H.S.) was the hard-luck loser for the Bluejays. Ferrin worked 4.2 innings in relief and held the Titans to only two hits and two unearned runs. He walked one and fanned three in the loss.
