Bluejay Baseball Team Falls at Northwestern 15-4

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College baseball team closed out the 2008 season with a 15-4 loss at Northwestern University.
Elmhurst closed out the season with a 12-28 overall record while Northwestern improved to 18-23 with the win.
Northwestern grabbed the lead early by scoring four runs in the first inning. All four Wildcat runs came with two outs and the bases empty.
Elmhurst got on the scoreboard in the top of the second when Noah Wiza (Brookfield/Riverside-Brookfield) lifted a bases loaded sacrifice fly to drive in a run.
Northwestern pulled away with five runs in the third and a run in the fourth to grab a 10-1 lead. The Bluejays cut the lead to 10-2 with a run in the fifth, but Northwestern tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fifth and added a run in the sixth to extend its lead to 13-2.
Elmhurst scored twice in the top of the seventh with a Tom Rhein (Worth/Brother Rice) grounder and a Jim Deschamps (Glenview/Glenbrook South) double.
Dan Matkovic (Carol Stream/Glenbard North) finished 2-for-3 at the plate to account for two of the Bluejays' seven hits.
Dan Napientek (Villa Park/Willowbrook) made the start and took the loss for Elmhurst. Napientek allowed 10 hits and nine runs (eight earned) while striking out one.
