Baseball Team Falls to Carroll in Extra Innings

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College baseball team erased a five-run ninth inning deficit, but fell in 12-10 to Carroll College in 11 innings.
Trailing 10-5 in the ninth inning, the Bluejays mounted a five run rally to tie the game at 10-all, but Elmhurst (10-24) left the game winning run on third base.
The Bluejays put their first two runners on base in the 11th inning, but failed to get a bunt down to move the runners over and were unable to score.
Carroll (7-20) broke through in the 11th inning with a pair of runs to score the 12-10 win.
Mike Goltz (Neenah, Wis./H.S.) led the Bluejays with a 3-for-5 day at the plate. He scored three runs and also drove in three. He smacked his sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the third inning.
Tom Rhein (Worth/Brother Rice) also finished with three hits and scored a pair of runs, while Jim Deschamps (Glenview/Glenbrook South) finished 3-for-5 while driving in a pair. Steve Glagola (Flossmoor/Homewood-Flossmoor) also drove in a pair in the loss.
Goltz suffered the loss in relief, allowing four hits and two earned runs in two innings of work.
Elmhurst hosts the University of Chicago on Tuesday, April 29, at 3:30 p.m.
