Bluejay Baseball Team Drops Slugfest to Wheaton

CAROL STREAM, Ill. - Despite scoring 13 runs, the Elmhurst College baseball team fell to 10-21 on the season following a 23-13 loss at Wheaton College.
The score was tied at 8-all after three innings of play, but Wheaton broke the game open with five runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to earn the 10-run victory.
Three hit batters in the first inning led to four Elmhurst runs as the Bluejays grabbed a quick 4-0 lead. The lead was short lived however, as the Thunder scored eight times on nine hits in the bottom of the inning.
Five walks in the third inning led to four more Bluejay runs as Elmhurst evened the score at 8-8. The Bluejays grabbed the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs, before the Thunder struck for five runs in the fifth inning.
Wheaton outhit Elmhurst 24-12 in the contest.
Jim Deschamps (Glenview/Glenbrook South) led the Bleujays' offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Deschamps scored three times and also drove in a run. Mike Goltz (Neenah, Wis./H.S.) finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored, and three driven in.
Andrew Auriemme (Addison/Addison Trail) took the loss from the mound. He was tagged for 16 hits and 13 runs in 4.2 innings of work. He walked one and struck out two.
