Baseball Team Drops Slugfest to Aurora

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College baseball team slipped to 8-16 overall following a 16-7 loss to Aurora University.

With the wind blowing out to left field all game, the two teams combined for 31 hits and nine home runs. Aurora (16-11) banged out 20 hits and hit seven home runs. Elmhurst finished with 11 hits, including a pair of home runs.

Elmhurst grabbed a 3-1 lead in the second inning after Noah Wiza (Brookfield/Riverside-Brookfield) smashed a three-run homer to left field.

Aurora answered back with three runs in the top of the third to take a 4-3 lead, but the Bluejays grabbed a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the inning by scoring three runs.

Aurora added a run in the top of the fifth and then smashed three home runs in the top of the fifth to grab a 10-6 lead.  All five runs in the fifth came via the long ball.  The Spartans scored five more times in the top of the ninth, with four runs scoring courtesy a pair of home runs.

Brett Lilley (Rochester Hills, Mich./H.S.) led the Bluejay offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. He also scored a run and drove in a run. Mike Goltz (Neenah, Wis./H.S.) smacked a solo homer in the loss.

Cyrus Rogers (Wheaton/Glenbard West) took the loss in relief. He worked 2.1 innings and allowed five innings and six runs. He walked three and struck out five.

Elmhurst hosts Concordia University-Chicago on Thursday, April 17, at 3:30 p.m.
