Baseball Team Splits With 13th Ranked Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Elmhurst College baseball team split a doubleheader with 13th-ranked Augustana College to improve to 6-9 on the season. Elmhurst dropped game one 7-0, but rebounded to take game two 4-2.
The doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played at Elmhurst, but was moved to Augustana due to poor field conditions.
AUGUSTANA 7, ELMHURST 0 - Augustana (16-3) outhit Elmhurst 10-2 en route to a 7-0 shutout win.
Augustana's Adam Doyle held Elmhurst to only two hits while tossing a complete game shutout. Doyle (3-0) allowed only two hits and one walk while fanning three in seven innings.
Tom Rhein (Worth/Brother Rice) and Mike Saylor (Cicero/Nazareth Academy) recorded the only Bluejay hits.
Matt Seroka (Chicago/Brother Rice) took the loss for the Bluejays. He allowed nine hits and seven runs in 3.2 innings of work. He walked seven and struck out two.
ELMHURST 4, AUGUSTANA 2 - The Bluejays scored their first conference win of the season by knocking off Augustana 4-2. Elmhurst outhit Augustana 9-7 in the game.
The Bluejays grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Patrick O'Connor (Villa Park/Willowbrook) singled home Jim Deschamps (Glenview/Glenbrook South). Elmhurst tacked on a run in the fifth on a Deschamps RBI double.
After the Vikings score a run in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead in half, the Bluejays scored twice in the seventh when Mike Goltz (Neenah, Wis./H.S.) blasted a two-run homer.
The Vikings got a run in the eighth, chasing Elmhurst starter Andrew Auriemme (Addison/Addison Trail) in the process, (but Kyle Silbert (Wheaton/North) came on in relief and shut the door on Augustana to give the Bluejays the win.
Auriemme (1-1) kept Augustana in check by limiting the Vikings to only seven hits and two earned runs in 7.1 innings of work. Auriemme walked two and struck out four. Silbert earned the save by pitching 1.2 innings and not allowing a base runner.
Goltz and Deschamps each finished with a pair of hits to lead the Bluejay offense.
Elmhurst plays host to Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday, April 2, at 4:00 p.m.
