Baseball Team Closes Spring Trip With Win

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Bluejay baseball team wrapped up its spring trip to Arizona with an 8-7 win over Williams College at the Russmatt Tournament. Elmhurst moved to 5-6 with the victory.
Trailing 6-5 in the eighth inning, a Williams error opened the door for the Bluejays. With two outs and the bases empty, Tom Rhein (Worth/Brother Rice) reached on an error. Scott Perkinson (Elk Grove/Elk Grove Village) followed with an RBI triple to tie the game at six. A balk allowed Perkinson to score and put the Bluejays up 7-6.
A Williams error in the ninth inning gave the Bluejays an insurance run as Elmhurst held off Williams to earn an 8-7 victory.
Perkinson and Mike Saylor (Cicero/Nazareth Academy) recorded two hits apiece to lead the Bluejay offense. Saylor and Brett Lilley (Rochester Hills, Mich./H.S.) each scored a pair of runs while Rhein drove in a pair of runs in the win.
Cyrus Rogers (Wheaton/Harper College) earned the win in relief. Rogers (2-0) worked 3.2 innings and allowed only one run and two hits. He walked two and struck out three.
Elmhurst is scheduled to begin CCIW play this weekend with a three-game series against Illinois Wesleyan. The Bluejays travel to Bloomington for a doubleheader on Saturday (March 29) and then host the Titans on Sunday (March 30).
