Bluejay Baseball Team Splits Pair With Knox

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The Elmhurst College baseball team moved to 2-5 on the season after splitting a doubleheader with Knox College at the Russmatt Tournament in Arizona.  Elmhurst dropped game one 12-8 but bounced back to sink Knox 10-7 in game two.

KNOX 12, ELMHURST 8 (Game One) - Elmhurst slipped to 1-5 on the season following a 12-8 loss to Knox.

Jim Deschamps (Glenview/Glenbrook South) drove in a pair of runs for the Bluejays while Brett Lilley (Rochester Hills, Mich./H.S.) finished 3-for-5 with a double.

Patrick Saylor (Cicero/Nazareth Academy) took the loss for Elmhurst, allowing eight earned runs in four innings.

ELMHURST 10, KNOX 7 (Game Two) - The Bluejays snapped their three-game skid with a 10-7 win over Knox.

Tom Rhein (Worth/Brother Rice), Pat Meginniss (Elgin/H.S.) and Scott Perkinson (Elk Grove/Elk Grove Village) finished with three hits apiece to lead the Bluejays' offense. Meginniss drove in three runs while Rhein and Deschamps each drove in a pair.

Elmhurst banged out 17 hits in the contest.

Scott Jones (Island Lake/Wauconda) earned the win in relief, while Cyrus Rogers (Wheaton/Harper College) notched a save.

The Bluejays will play a doubleheader with Middlebury College on Monday, March 24, in Mesa, Ariz.
