Baseball Team Splits Twin Bill with Bethel

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Elmhurst College baseball team moved to 1-3 on the season after splitting a doubleheader with Bethel University. Elmhurst scored a 6-4 win in game one and dropped the second contest by a final score of 3-1.
ELMHURST 6, BETHEL 4 - Elmhurst scored its first win of the 2008 season by banging out 10 hits in a 6-4 win over Bethel University.
Nick Sharkey (Bolingbrook/H.S.), Jim Deschamps (Glenview/Glenbrook South), and Steve Glagola (Flossmoor/Homewood-Flossmoor) all drove in runs in the first inning to spark the Bluejays to a 3-0 lead.
After Bethel evened the score at 4-4 in the sixth, the Bluejays scored the go-ahead runs in the top of the seventh. With one out, Tom Rhein (Worth/Brother Rice) trippled and Sharkey drew a walk. After a strikeout, Deschamps delivered a clutch two-out single to drive home Rhein. After a passed ball moved both runners up a base, Sharkey came home to score on a wild pitch to give Elmhurst a two-run lead.
Rhein finished with three hits, including a pair of triples. He also scored a pair of runs in the win. Deschamps added two hits and drove in a pair in the victory.
Patrick Saylor (Cicero/College of DuPage) made the start and allowed only three runs and two hits in five innings of work. Saylor did not walk a batter and struck out six while earning a no-decision. Peter Childs (Lake Forest/H.S.) earned the win after pitching two innings of relief. He allowed one run and two hits while fanning two batters in two innings.
BETHEL 3, ELMHURST 1 - Elmhurst was held to only four hits as the Bluejays dropped to 1-3 following a 3-1 loss to Bethel.
Deschamps drove in the Bluejays' lone run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Rhein added a pair of hits in the loss to pace the Bluejay offense.
Bethel scored a pair of runs in the first inning and tacked on a run in the third to score the 3-1 win. Isaac Hamilton pitched five innings and held the Bluejays to only four hits to earn the victory for Bethel. Travis Adams worked two innings of no-hit relief to record the save.
Andrew Auriemme (Addison/Addison Trail) took the loss for Elmhurst. Auriemme was charged with two runs and two hits in two innings of work.
