Tom Journell Stepping Down as Football Coach

Tom Journell has resigned his position as Head Football Coach at Elmhurst College to become the defensive coordinator on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point coaching staff.

"We all certainly want to thank Tom Journell for the leadership he has provided to the Elmhurst College football program," said Elmhurst College Athletic Director Paul Krohn. "He has ambitiously and consistently recruited capably skilled players, with high integrity and tremendous academic accomplishments. Tom has been a true professional and has been unselfish of his time and dedication in building and sustaining a level of successful football at Elmhurst College. We wish Tom and his family luck with his new position.”

Journell served as the Bluejays' head coach for the past four seasons. After posting a 4-6 record in his first season in 2004, Journell guided the Bluejays' to three consecutive 6-4 finishes. Journell compiled a career record of 22-18 overall and 10-18 in CCIW play. His 22 career victories rank him fifth all-time at Elmhurst in career wins.

Prior to arriving at Elmhurst, Journell spent 15 seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin-Rive Falls.

A search for a new football coach will begin immediately.
