Baseball Team Falls to Oberlin in Extra Innings

Box Score

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Elmhurst College baseball team fell to 4-6 overall following a 10-9 extra inning loss to Oberlin College in the Russmatt Tournament in Arizona.

Elmhurst battled back from a five-run deficit in the ninth inning to send the game into extra innings. Nick Sharkey (Bolingbrook/H.S.) delivered a key two-run single in the ninth to even the score at 8-8.

In the extra frame, Oberlin scored a pair of unearned runs to take a 10-8 lead.  Elmhurst cut the lead in half in the bottom of the tenth, but the Bluejays left the bases loaded, stranding the tying and winning runs.

Scott Jones (Island Lake/Wauconda) took the loss in relief.

Sharkey, Brett Lilley (Rochester Hills, Mich./H.S.), Pat Meginniss (Elgin/H.S), and Tom Rhein (Worth/Brother Rice) each recorded three hits in the loss to pace the Bluejays. Lilley scored three runs and drove in one while Sharkey drove in two.

Elmhurst warps up its spring trip by playing Williams College on Thursday, March 26, in Chandler, Ariz.
