Indoor Track Teams Run at Chicago Duals

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst College indoor track and field teams kicked off the 2008 season by running at the University of Chicago Duals.  The men's team finished 5-4 while the women's team posted a 3-5-1 mark.

On the  men's side, the Bluejays scored wins over Chicago State University (58-55), DePaul University (63-30), Illinois Institute of Technology (63-38), Lawrence University (62-57) and North Park University (56-47). The Bluejays were defeated by Beloit College (75-59), North Central College (119-33), the University of Chicago (115-34) and the University of Illinois-Chicago (105-42).

Pat Austin (Yorkville/H.S.) turned in the strongest individual performance for the men by winning the 5,000 meters in 15:25.56. Ryan Wasilewski (Springfield/Lanphier) placed eighth in the shot put (12.65 meters) and in the weight throw (13.28). Brian McConnell (Delavan/H.S.) finished 12th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.36.  In the 3,000 meters, Danny DeCleene (Sycamore/H.S.) finished 12th (9:26.51) while Bob Spelich (Peru/LaSalle-Peru) crossed the finish line right behind in 13th place (9:26.93).

On the women's side, Elmhurst earned wins over Chicago State University (55-38), Illinois Institute of Technology (59-24) and North Park University (59-34). The Bluejays were defeated by Beloit College (70-58), DePaul University (78-35), North Central College (111-34), University of Chicago (121-27) and the University of Illinois-Chicago (65-43). Elmhurst and Lawrence finished tied at 60-all.

Tracy Brtis (Wheaton/Wheaton-Warrenville South) led the Bluejay women by placing seventh in the 55-meter hurdles (9.95 seconds), 15th in the 200 meters (28.73 seconds) and20th in the 55 meters (8.07 seconds).

The Bluejays had a strong showing in the 3,000 meters with Megan Johnson (Plano/H.S.) placing sixth (11:22.21), Michelle Smith (Berkley, Mich./H.S.) finishing ninth (12:00.64), and Katie Bourke (Evanston/H.S.) taking 11th place (12:15.98).

Elmhurst runs at the Lewis University Invitational on Saturday, February 9.
