Welcome to the Elmhurst College Athletic Training website. Athletic training deals with the medical care of student-athletes. This care includes prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries that may occur to our student athletes.
The Elmhurst College Athletic Training staff consists of a team physician, 2 full-time Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC's), and 3 part-time ATC's. The staff of ATC's provide medical coverage to our varsity and junior varsity teams. This includes all on- and off-campus practice and game sites utilized by Elmhurst College. The athletic trainers are located in the main athletic training room on the lower level of R.A. Faganel Hall. The team physician makes regular weekly visits to the athletic training room for physicals and injury evaluations.

Health Insurance Policy The college mandates that all full-time students have health insurance. It is the responsibility of the student-athlete and his/her parents/guardians to provide primary insurance coverage. The Athletic Department provides secondary insurance coverage for ONLY those injuries and illnesses that are a direct result of participation in intercollegiate athletics. This policy is secured through First Agency, Inc., of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Anne Hutchins, athletic trainer, works in cooperation with Vicky Ferguson, athletics secretary, to process paperwork and file insurance claims. The policy through First Agency, Inc, will only take effect after all claims have been acted upon by the primary insurance company and the appropriate information has been given to the athletic training staff. It is the student-athlete and his/her parents/guardians responsibility to see that all bills are submitted to their insurance company. Failure to do so will relieve the Athletic Department of liability to pay benefits.
If the student-athlete is not insured by a parent or individual policy, they must purchase the Student Health Insurance policy available to all students through the university. The Athletic Department is NOT responsible for payment of this insurance.
The Athletic Departments liability for medical expenses resulting from injuries sustained by athletes is defined in the following manner. Liability is extended to cover:
- Medical expenses from athletically related injuries only when the student is enrolled in school at Elmhurst College.
- Only those injures reported to the athletic trainer or team physician within forty eight (48) hours from the injury producing incident if, and only if, it is a direct result of intercollegiate athletics participation.
- Those injuries received during the athletes season which in the opinion of the team physician and the Athletic Director are directly attributable to participation in intercollegiate athletics while a full time student at Elmhurst College.
- Medical expenses resulting from services which have been authorized by the team physician through a referral to a medical specialist.
- Payment of medical expenses not covered by primary insurance, but authorized by the team physician and full time athletic trainers. (Payment may be partial or full, depending on the nature of the injury and is determined by First Agency, Inc.)
